Best Electric Bikes in Canada (2026)

Three electric bikes — a city commuter, a mountain e-bike and a folding e-bike — lined up in daylight

How to read this page. Every price and spec below comes from the manufacturer's published listings, not from our imagination. Rize Bikes was running a September sale (advertised as ending September 30) when we verified these figures — sale prices can end without notice, so treat the retailer's product page as the final word. We have not personally ridden these bikes; our analysis is research-based. See how we research.

Best step-through

Rize Leisure Step

The step-through sibling of the Leisure, built for riders who want easy mounting — commuters in work clothes, older riders, or anyone who dislikes swinging a leg over a high top tube. It keeps the 500 W Bafang motor, torque sensor, 720 Wh Samsung battery and 26″ × 4″ fat tires of the standard Leisure. A 750 W "Leisure Step 750" variant has also been sold (listed at $2,299, currently sold out); if it returns, note the motor wattage when considering provincial power-assisted bicycle rules.

  • Motor 500 W Bafang, 80 Nm, torque sensor
  • Battery 48 V 15 Ah Samsung (720 Wh)
  • Tires 26″ × 4″ fat tires
  • Frame Step-through aluminum
  • Weight 79 lbs incl. battery
  • Price $2,499 CAD

Strengths

  • Easy on/off step-through frame
  • Same strong motor/battery combo as the Leisure
  • Good for riders 5′2″ and up per sizing guidance

Trade-offs

  • $500 more than the standard Leisure on sale
  • 750 W variant availability comes and goes

Best folding

Rize Bolt

The Bolt is Rize's answer to condo living, transit commutes and RV travel: a folding frame with 20-inch wheels that packs down far smaller than any full-size e-bike. The trade-off for portability is a smaller 48 V 14 Ah battery and a cadence (rather than torque) sensor, plus 65 Nm of torque — still plenty for city riding, less ideal for steep sustained climbs. At 58 lbs it's light for an e-bike, though still not something you'll want to carry up three flights daily. A claimed range of up to 80 km is generous for a folder.

  • Motor 500 W Bafang, 65 Nm, cadence sensor
  • Battery 48 V 14 Ah Samsung (672 Wh)
  • Tires 20″ × 2.25″ Kenda
  • Brakes Dual-piston hydraulic, 160 mm
  • Weight 58 lbs incl. battery; 250 lbs capacity
  • Price $1,899 CAD on sale (list $2,199)

Strengths

  • Folds for apartments, car trunks and transit
  • Lightest bike in this comparison
  • Strong claimed range for a folder

Trade-offs

  • Cadence sensor feels less natural than torque
  • Less torque for big hills than the Leisure
  • Small wheels = harsher ride on rough roads

Best retro style

Rize Blade

The Blade leans into retro moped style — banana seat, upright bars, 4-inch fat tires — with a 750 W Bafang motor and an optional dual battery good for a claimed 140 km. At a "from $1,599" price point it has been the cheapest way into the Rize lineup, but it was sold out when we last checked. If you love the look, it's worth watching for restocks — but before you buy, read our note on motor power limits: a 750 W continuous rating exceeds Canada's 500 W power-assisted bicycle definition, which can affect where you may legally ride it.

  • Motor 750 W Bafang
  • Battery 48 V 15 Ah (dual-battery option)
  • Tires 4″ puncture-resistant fat tires
  • Extras Included rear rack, banana seat
  • Price From $1,599 CAD — currently sold out

Strengths

  • Head-turning retro design
  • Lowest entry price in the lineup when available
  • Dual-battery long-range option

Trade-offs

  • Currently sold out; availability is unreliable
  • 750 W rating needs a legality check in your province

Most powerful

Rize X 1000 20Ah

The X 1000 is Rize's flagship for 2026: a 1000 W motor with 95 Nm of torque and what the company calls the largest battery on any of its e-bikes — a 52 V 20 Ah unit — plus a torque sensor, an advanced LCD display and integrated signal lights. It is unambiguously the most capable bike here. It is also the one that most demands a careful read of the rules: 1000 W is double Canada's 500 W continuous limit for power-assisted bicycles, and the advertised "up to 50 km/h" exceeds the 32 km/h assisted-speed definition. Rize's configurable speed settings can bring it down to 32 km/h, but wattage is a separate issue — check your province's rules before riding one on public roads or paths. Best suited to private land or buyers who have confirmed legality locally.

  • Motor 1000 W, 95 Nm, torque sensor
  • Battery 52 V 20 Ah (1040 Wh)
  • Top speed Up to 50 km/h (configurable down)
  • Price $2,799 CAD

Strengths

  • Huge battery and torque for the price
  • Torque sensor and signal lights included
  • Serious range potential

Trade-offs

  • 1000 W exceeds the 500 W Canadian PAB limit — verify legality
  • Heavier and more bike than most riders need

Commuter alternative

iGO Metro CX

Not every Canadian rider wants fat tires. Montreal-based iGO Electric has been building e-bikes in Canada for over 15 years, and the Metro CX is its stealthy city commuter: a 500 W rear hub motor (900 W peak, 48 Nm), an integrated 482 Wh battery with a claimed 50 km of range, 27.5-inch wheels, fenders, rear rack and a step-through frame at about 50 lbs — noticeably lighter than the fat-tire bikes above. It launched at $1,999.99 CAD; we haven't re-verified current dealer pricing, so check iGO's site or a local dealer before comparing it against the Rize picks. Included here as the strongest Canadian-built commuter alternative we've found.

  • Motor 500 W rear hub (900 W peak), 48 Nm
  • Battery 482 Wh integrated
  • Wheels 27.5″ with fenders and rack included
  • Weight ~50 lbs (22.6 kg)
  • Price Launched at $1,999.99 CAD — check current pricing

Strengths

  • Canadian company with long track record
  • Lighter and more "normal bike" feel than fat-tire rivals
  • Commuter-ready: rack, fenders, integrated battery

Trade-offs

  • Smaller battery = shorter range
  • Not a winter/snow bike
  • We couldn't verify a current price — confirm before buying

Which one should you buy?

Most Canadian riders will be happiest with the Rize Leisure: fat tires for year-round versatility, a torque sensor for natural-feeling assist, and a big brand-name-cell battery at a sale price that competing brands struggle to match. Apartment dwellers and transit commuters should look at the Bolt. Riders who prioritize easy mounting get the Leisure Step. And if your riding is mostly paved city commuting and you prefer a lighter, conventional-looking bike, price the iGO Metro CX against the list before deciding.

Whatever you choose, read our Canadian buying guide first — it explains motor types, battery math and the power-assisted bicycle rules that determine what's legal to ride where you live.

Frequently asked questions

Are these prices in Canadian dollars?

Yes. Every price on this page is in CAD as listed on the Canadian storefronts (rizebikes.ca for Rize models), verified September 19, 2026. Rize was running a September sale advertised as ending September 30 — always confirm the live price before ordering.

Why are most of your picks from one brand?

Two reasons: Rize Bikes is a Canadian company (Richmond, BC) whose lineup covers the main use cases at aggressive prices, and it's the brand whose specs and pricing we could fully verify against live retailer pages. We include non-Rize alternatives like iGO where we can describe them accurately, and we'll expand the comparison as we verify more brands.

Do any of these bikes ship to my province?

Rize Bikes advertises free express shipping across Canada from its Canadian operations, and bikes arrive about 95% assembled. Confirm shipping to your postal code on the retailer's checkout page — remote and northern addresses sometimes differ.

Can I ride a 750 W or 1000 W e-bike legally in Canada?

It depends on your province. Canada's federal power-assisted bicycle definition caps continuous motor output at 500 W and assisted speed at 32 km/h; bikes exceeding that can be treated as motor vehicles requiring a licence, registration and insurance. See our buying guide's rules section and check your provincial regulations before buying a high-powered model.
